Of Anglo-Australian appearance 

I am speechless. I never thought I'd hear "race riots" applied to Australia. By the way, don't expect lucidity. It is an insane hour.

But everyone has forgotten about that...Have any of you ever even been to cronuLLa before? Usually it is crawling with gangs of lebs... just lookin for a fight... Today there were none! Mission accomplished...

Today was about making sure your sister or your mother or your brother can walk safely down a street without fear of being beaten up by thugs!

Now this:

A BARE-CHESTED youth in Quiksilver boardshorts tore the headscarf off the girl's head as she slithered down the Cronulla dune seeking safety on the beach from a thousand-strong baying mob.

A crowd of at least 5000 - overwhelmingly under 25 - took over Cronulla's foreshore and beachside streets. Police were powerless as 200-odd ringleaders, many clutching bottles or cans of beer and smoking marijuana, led assaults on individuals and small groups of Lebanese Australians who risked an appearance during the six-hour protest.

The irony just blows my mind. "I'm no racist thug! I only took part in a mob that bashed up Lebs".

There needs to be a peach vigil. Completely, strictly non-violent, no alcohol. People of different races, walking down a street, is all.

Waltzing Matilda, "Aussie Aussie Aussie", the anthem- they're all sullied now. Meanwhile, I'm getting to hate the use of the word "unAustralian". What are these thugs but Australian? We've got to accept that the concept of being Australian also includes racist lynch mobs.

I'm hypersensitive to anti-Muslim/Middle-Eastern sentiment, for some reason. I think it's because I'm getting the vibe that it's becoming more and more acceptable in the mainstream. People who defend them nowadays have to cover their asses by condemning terrorism and gang rapes, thus reinforcing the subconscious link between ethnicity and these crimes. Reasonable people are starting to say, "maybe there is some truth in this racial profiling business".

Cronulla, Redfern, Macquarie Fields. There is something seriously fucked up in this country.
