:-)
*happy sigh*The excitement is dying down now. The interview's been posted, and the furor over, and I think I've just received my last letter from XY. In it she wishes me the best in my exams, ferchrissakes. How much more lovely can she get?! I still can't believe this is real. I mean in the past week, I've been basically corresponding DAILY with her. I've lost count of how many emails we've exchanged. Argh I just read over some of my earlier ones. Bloody long and earnest, brrrr. In the later ones, we've established a sweet little jokey tone. She's so funny in the interview, in this dry ironic kind of way.
eg. Can you or your mum get Tom Stoppard to write a decent new female lead for you?
"Um. Sure. Oh, Tooooom?"
And another gem: "Having an opinion about every little old thing is overrated, in my opinion".
Hee! Bloody legend!
There was a little bit on her politics and religion:
"I distrust religion in general."
And she's for gay marriage and against the war and flag-waving patriotism. Thank the lord. She is so damn cool. Humble, generous, witty, empathetic, liberal, doesn't take herself too seriously, sounds like a fantastic mother...frick man. I'd love to be friends with her, except this fan thing gets in the way. Oh plus I'm like 15 years her junior and immature. Ah well. She's where I'd like to be in 15 years - not in terms of her profession, but just that she's happy with herself, liking what she does, living the simple life with her family but still being aware of the world.
In her second-last one she said "maybe we can do this again some time"! Of course, I'm not one to miss such and opportunity - I told her not to lead us into temptation, cos I'm sure we could come up with another truckload of questions! Poor woman. We're going to get her a present for her birthday, which is in a couple of months.
Sigh. It's sad that it's all over for now, but I still have a happy little glow that hopefully will last through the whole of exam period. And I expect renewed contact once our thank-you present arrives.
Meanwhile, in real life, things are going ok as well. French & Govt exams were alright (I was a weeee bit distracted though so could've done better- all her fault! Heh). Got French article, Psych assignment and Law assignments back - distinctions for all, phew. Was worried about the latter two. Oh and I saw this really cute guy on the bus yesterday. Czech (I heard him say so to his friend), really beautiful smile - sort of looks like JD from Scrubs, but less weird - blue eyes, black/brown hair. I'm a sucker for blue eyes/dark hair. Oh my meltness. I had sunnies on so could stare at him discreetly for the whole trip. I think he was a first year though. I also had other male contact- bumped into this guy I knew from French last year. I sort of like him, he's cute, Philo, laidback sense of humour. And he asked for my number, but I think that was just in a friendly kinda way. I always talk too much around him.
I feel as if I've been leading a double life. Only two people know about this whole XY thing in my offline life, and both of them are in Melbourne. Whereas online, I'm at the centre of this major commotion in fandom, corresponding with a star and various strangers around the world, liaising with other fansites, publicising to the mass media. So far with no luck- bastards, bet they're just jealous! hehe. cos this is totally new media 1, old media 0. XY is notorious for hating journo interviews and in the answers, goes on about how they twist her words - which is indeed true.
