Blast from the past
One of the books I got in my 30 books/$5 haul, from the second hand book-sale, is called "Narrative poems of the late XIX century", published in 1943. I haven't got around to actually reading any poems yet, but just the ads on the covers are amazing. The front inside cover is an ad for Greys Cigarettes, depicting a British soldier bedecked in a busby and medals, with the slogan "second to none - just honest-to-goodness tobacco". The back inside cover is and ad for a Mars bar."Cut them into slices! -and let all the family enjoy them..
Sweet rationing may have made "share and share alike" a good family motto. But it's not so easy to apply unless you use some of your coupons for something that really does give everybody a chance of getting a good big share. mars are made from the finest available materials - including chocolate to sustain, glucose to energise, separated milk to nourish. So, by cutting these chunky candy-bars up into slices, every member of the family can enjoy a satisfying share of their delicious goodness
There's a stylised picture of a nuclear family gathered around a plate with slices of Mars bar, and a close-up of a wrapped bar marked "Mars" with 2 1/2 D printed on it. Amazing, really. I feel like I have some sort of treasure here.
In other news, I got another med interview, Newcastle. Meh.
