Freebies
It's amazing what people will give you to for free. Once, I got Kimberly Kirberger to send me two Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul spinoff books by e-mailing her and telling her they weren't available in Australia (they weren't at the time). Cool eh? Putting aside the fact that I was reading self-help books as a teenager (obviously didn't work).Anywho, another cool freebie is available chez Absolutely Kosher Records. You just need to e-mail them and they'll send you a free CD. They probably change the mix every so often, but the one I got was quite interesting and eclectic. Some really weird stuff like this Shooby Taylor dude who does a sort of strange Louis-Armstrong-does-operetta-slash-music-hall scat, an instrumental track from the sadly defunct guitar-cello duo Telegraph Melts (mp3s here: "Septembrist" is the one included on the CD), and my favourite so far, "Boys, you won't" from The Wrens.
I discovered the label via 3hive.com's recommendation , Summer at Shatter Creek, whose "Seizure" is also on my favourites list, though I like the no-frills version much more than the prettied up version on the CD).
