Baaaack from New Zealand
Am I glad to be home. Not that NZ was horrible. It's just that the tres pretty scenery didn't make up for brattissimo kids (note: lots of toys plus neglect does NOT equal parenting), shittissimo weather (rain every day almost), being stuck in the back seat on very very very long car rides with said bratty kids, the kinda boringness of Auckland, the standoffish locals, the suffocating monotony of hotels, the stink of Rotorua, the endless souvenir shops.Granted, when the kids were in a non bratty mood, they were pretty cute, especially the little two year-old. The glow-worm caves, mud baths and thermal thingies were kind of cool. And we had the Best EVAR Chinese meal yesterday in some suburb of Auckland- homemade tofu and PROPER tea. Best of all, most of the non-flight expenses were paid for my parents of the bratty kids, including accomodation. AND AND AND....I can speak New Zealandglish now! I'm very proud of myself. I'm usually shutty et umitating eccints, but thus time I've fugured out the trucks. Most of the time, i's become u's, e's become i's, and a's become e's, and you play the rest by ear (duphthongs are a but of a butch).
My eyes are crossing. More on our sheepish neighbours later, iicbf.*
*Made up acronym.
**Random thoughts rolling around my head in NZ that would've been blogged:
-Chris' parents have lots of laugh lines, but my mum doesn't
-What about Sudan?
-Race, culture, and class matter more than they should
-It's easier to succeed in small countries
-How the fuck do you raise good kids?
&c.
