Post-exam stress
Wow, that was a mother of an entry. Congratulations to anyone who made it through the whole way.Anyway, today I had to go to school to do a few odd errands and rehearse for Speech Night. For those who haven't had the *cough* pleasure of attending such an event, it's where the principal and miscellaneous boring people make speeches basically advertising the school. The House Cup is presented, the school captain makes a speech, everyone sleeps. In the second half, there's the music from the school's best groups. The conclusion is a medley where the whole Senior School goes onstage and sings.
That's where I come in. I'm playing guitar in the medley orchestra. This is giving me the shits for various reasons. Firstly, there are going to be probably upwards of a thousand people attending. Two words: STAGE FRIGHT. Secondly, I am not rehearsed since I missed the intensive rehearsal week while I was in Vanuatu. Thirdly, I'm playing several solos, some of which are freaking improvised. You have to understand that before I started the guitar, I'd only had contact with playing classical piano and flute, where you have to play everything exactly as the music says. Furthermore, my teacher taught me to improvise by saying "You can use A natural minor here. Now play." Fourthly, I suck. The other guitarist has played for like seven years, whereas this year is my first performing publicly. And the orchestra is full of all these prodigies with AMus and LMus qualifications, higher than some of the teachers. Fifthly, the conductors are SCARY AS. Sixthly, the medley also sucks. This year they decided to write it all in-house, so the lyrics are by students. To put it gently, they are truly gag-worthy.
And Monday is also the day we get our results. Excuse me while I have a nervous breakdown.
